Comming from Barcelona?
The easiest and stress free option is to catch a train. Train ride is 6 h 50 m. Two trains leave on July 13 heading to Murcia del Carmen at 12:00 mid-day or 15:00 pm (between 56.20 to 28.10 Euros tourist class depending on restrictions). You could buy your ticket at: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html
Other options: By bus (9 h 30 m ride) The bus is leaving on July 14 at 1:00 am and arrives Murcia 10:30 am (60.16 Euros) http://www.alsa.es/en/
Driving by rent-a-car: A nice Toll roadway (or a free slow one) between Barcelona and Murcia City are available. (Aprox. driving time is 5:30 hours by Toll) http://www.europecar.es/ http://www.hertz.es/ http://www.avis.es/default.aspx
Bus from ALICANTE AIRPORT (El Altet) to Murcia City:
The spanish bus Co. Alsa is running a direct bus service from the airport of Alicante to Murcia City. You can get tickets on line (English service available), at the bus door or with a ticket seller just right in front of the bus stop, outside the airport; SEE BELOW). The bus stops at Alicante airport (bus stop at Departure level!) and gets you several times during the day to the capital of the province of Murcia.
Currently Alsa runs up to 5 bus services during July 13, 2013 (11:15, 13:15, 15:15, 17:15 & 19:15). The bus does a non stop trip and stops in Murcia City bus station. (Outside, in front of the main gate, catch a taxi to the hotel for 8 to 10 Euros). For walking directions follow this link, however, this is not recomended due the high temperatures during summer.
Finding your bus at the Airport: When you arrive at Alicante airport for the first time and try to figure out how to get a bus to Murcia, the bus stop area at the airport can be quite confusing.
You must head Outside the Departure Area ( At Level 2 ). This is the UPPER Level of the Airport!
Exiting the arrival gate ( Level 0 ) you walk straight on to the elevators. Take the elevator UP to the Departure level. ( Do NOT go down to the arrival level, as this is for charter busses only).
At the departure level 2 you walk to the very end of the departure area and exit the terminal building. There they are: All bus-stops for local area busses and MURCIA are right outside the departure area.
Several different buses are stopping there, YOUR BUS MUST BE LIKE THE ONE BELOW!!
